yes, this is really annoying.

Since I cannot actually solve the problem, I propse this workaround:

The attached file in the archive is base-64 encoded (the "huge character
stream").
You can copy this stream into a file with extension .b64 and open the
file with e.g. Winzip to enforce the decoding.
