[Webtest] log4j error running canoo 1.7

hi,
just pulled down canoo 1.7, installed it. wrote a
simple test to login to my webapp. But when I run
either ant -buildfile test.xml (my 1.6.2 ant) or run
the webtest.sh wrapper so I pick up the
lib/runtime/ant, I get this exception:

java.lang.VerifyError: (class:
org/apache/log4j/LogManager, method: <clinit>
signature: ()V) Incompatible argument to function
	at org.apache.log4j.Logger.getLogger(Logger.java:94)
	at
com.canoo.webtest.steps.Step.<clinit>(Step.java:33)

I know there were issues with log4j over changes
between LogManager and Logger. I'm pretty sure I'm not
picking up any log4j besides whats in canoo/lib (to be
sure I moved aside the log4j jar and that caused it to
complain about the missing classes).

any thoughts?
